We arrived to Copenhagen late in the evening. The US women’s world cup team had a match that night, so Nelson and I tried to find a place to watch it, only to find that everything closed quite early (including an Irish sports bar). We ate some dinner and returned to our hostel, which was the second and final hostel of the trip. The hostel was nice, but rather loud and warm, which made it hard to sleep.
The next day was spent meeting up for a design and architecture walking tour of the city through the design museum, which was a lot of fun. We learned about the evolution of architecture in Denmark and even why there are so many bikes (the city’s infrastructure is very bike-friendly because of a recesssion when cars were becoming popular).
Some kind of statehouse that was restored and given an aged look to convey power and strength
Colorful buildings, originally painted different colors as a differentiator, but now painted for tourists
We also walked around the city’s botanical gardens/a beautiful sprawling park.
I ended up getting very little sleep, and when I woke up at around 4 am I decided to take a walk around the city. I was surprised to find that people were out and about and enjoying themselves.
the other Louisiana
After a nice day in Copenhagen, Nelson found a museum for us to visit before we headed to our next destination. I had never heard of it but went along. It was the Louisiana Museum of Modern art and was, without question, the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. The views were striking alongside the water and the pieces in the museum were all stunning. It was tucked away in a residential area about an hour train ride outside of Copenhagen.
This was one of the highlights of my trip!
